Barnbuskers bandleader and violinist Judy was on loan to another band last night and had an enjoyable evening calling the country dances for the Wiveliscombe and District Twinning Association.
Wiveliscombe Rugby Club Hall proved a great venue for the twinning association meal and fun get together with the dance hall packed with cheerful French and British dancers doing do-si-dos, right hand stars, left hand circles, galloping between the lines and more. Traditional French dances are very different to traditional English Country dances so there was much merriment on the dance floor as the French visitors learned new moves!
Wiveliscombe has been twinned with Le Lion d’Angers in the Maine et Loire region of France for over 40 years. In one year, families, couples and individuals from Wiveliscombe area visit and stay with host families in the lovely town of Lion d’Angers. During every other year, French families visit and stay with Wiveliscombe families. There is a close friendship between the two towns.
Judy was particularly pleased to call the dances because it gave her a chance to speak a little French and it brought back memories of camping holidays and cycling in the Loire with her partner and clarinettist Robin.
