Successful Somerset Day barn dance at the Charltons Community Centre with Barnbuskers Ceilidh Band Duo and caller

Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance band Duo at The Charletons Community Centre

Last night, 9th May 2026, The Charltons Community Centre in South Somerset was packed with happy mums, dads and some children walking, skipping and dancing around in circles to the left, circles to the right, do-si-dos, right hand stars, left hand stars, some significant galloping between the lines and lots more. As always with country dancing at ceilidhs and barn dances, there were lots of whoops, smiles and laughter. Brilliantly organised by the Charlton Mackrell Parent Teacher Association (PTA), known as the Friends of Charlton Mackrell School Committee, or just ‘Friends’, it was a great night out and a wonderful Somerset Day Celebration fund raiser for Charlton Mackrell Primary School.

The Charltons Community Centre certainly proved to be a great hall for a barn dance. There was easy access from the car park to get Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band equipment into the performing area and it was in a lovely setting with the playing fields next door.

Lying conveniently between Charlton Mackrell and Charlton Adam in South Somerset, The Charltons Community Centre is also convenient for surrounding villages such as Keinton Mandeville, Kingsdon, Babcary and the towns of Somerton, Street and Glastonbury. Based on Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band’s experience last night, if you are looking for a nice barn dance hall, The Charltons Community Centre is well worth checking out.

And, if you are thinking of holding a barn dance or ceilidh, for your birthday, anniversary or special event in the South Somerset area, The Charltons Community Centre is available to hire. Naturally, it is best to check out the facilities yourself to see if they suit your needs but, based on Barnbuskers experience last night, the hall proved excellent for a ceilidh or barn dance.
