Yes, today’s the day for the fantastic free ceilidh barn dance at the East Quay Cultural Centre, Watchet in West Somerset. As this is being written, the excitement is mounting as the band equipment is being loaded into Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band transport and the musicians are getting washed and brushed up for a great afternoon open air party. All are welcome to the free festivities, young … and not so young, and it’s all completely free! Just come along and watch if you like but we reckon that the jiggy music will have your toes tapping and you’ll soon want to join in. Country dancing, the very essence of May day, is very easy and our brilliant caller, Bridget, photo below on left, will walk you through the dances before the music starts and then will carry on calling instructions for as long as necessary which is why country dancing is so easy.

And today we’ve got a very special band for you too with Laura (double bass) and Ryan (guitar), photo below, joining mum (Judy) and Robin (wind instruments), photo above, to make it a real family affair.

So, Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band hope to see you at the Eastern end of Watchet Quay besides Watchet Marina. The Afternoon’s celebrations start at 1pm with maypole dancing and other interesting activities going on. Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band live dance music starts at 3.15pm and goes on until early evening.
If you can’t make it (imagine that!), and your interest has been piqued, come along to Barnbuskers band leader’s Judy’s Ceilidh classes on Wednesday and Thursdays at Watchet and Minehead. One hour’s dancing to recorded Barnbuskers music and great social fun.
