Cowboy, pirate and medieval themed country dances are common at birthday parties, anniversaries and wedding celebrations with Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band

Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band country dances are about having fun! Although not obligatory, to make the occasion even more special, lots of people often enjoy dressing up. Sometimes even, there is an official theme for the birthday party, anniversary or wedding celebration. The cowboy theme is popular, sometimes with a hog roast. Later in the year we are providing the band and caller for a pirate party and next year (2027) in April, there is a barn dance planned with a strong medieval theme. (Not forgetting, of course, the ever popular tartan on Burns Night!) However, lots of the time, people just turn up dressed as they wish. We do recommend wearing comfortable shoes for the fun dancing though.

So, how do we achieve this fun? Well our expert dance caller’s whole aim, on the dance floor, is to maximise everyone’s enjoyment. In particular, by selecting the best dances for those present and ensuring they are easy enough for everyone to join in. Dancers can walk, skip, prance or gallop as they wish or their ability allows. Each dance is walked through and then, after the music starts, our dance caller continues calling out the moves for as long as is helpful. No previous experience is needed to join in. This is why country dances are ideal for family and community mixed gatherings involving lots of different age groups. Dancing around in circles or back and forward in lines are incredibly social activities and do-si-dos have been bringing communities together for hundreds of years.
