An hour of barn dancing was a wonderful way for Taunton based group of Suzuki violin and piano playing children, their parents and teachers to end their day of rural activities in the beautiful countryside of the Blackdown Hills at the Wildside Experience, Hemyock in Mid Devon, UK. With recorded music by Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band, the Wildside Barn (photo below) was packed with dancers enjoying circle dances and longways sets to bouncy jigs and reels. There were do-si-dos, right hand stars and left hand stars, circling left and right and lots of galloping between the lines, together, as always, with lots of laughter.
Expert country dance caller Judy (photo below), who is also Barnbuskers Band leader and organiser, walked through the dances before the music started and then carried on with helpful instructions once each dance was underway. So everyone could join in whatever their age or previous experience.
Taunton Suzuki offer violin and piano lessons to children from the age of 3. With highly trained teachers who are passionate about what they do. Their teaching is about more than just learning to play an instrument.
