At Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band, we love providing the ceilidh dance music and caller for office and other corporate parties in Somerset and Devon. There is something special about watching people who normally hold quite a reserved formal relationship to each other, letting their hair down and really enjoying being together.
Ceilidh dancing is not just fun, it’s also incredibly social. Lines of staff advancing towards each other and shouting hello! People from all departments and offices holding hands and circling around in small groups or even in a much larger circle that includes everyone in the room. Couples forming an arch with their hands for others to duck down and pass through. It’s all organised by the dance caller who is there to ensure everyone has a great time. All of this and more to the sounds to toe-tapping music that has been pleasing people of all ages for hundreds of years and getting them up and onto the dance floor.
At a staff or corporate ceilidh dance, there is no need to have to go up to your boss and ask them to dance with you because the dance caller does that for you. Of course, if you want to dance with your friends, that’s fine too. The dance caller will invite everyone on the floor and organise them into sets which could be lines, circles or even squares. Individuals can simply join a set with others. In corporate terms, you could almost imagine a ceilidh dance as being a series of constantly changing teams working together to have fun. Great for team building!
