Barnbuskers loves Birthday Party Family ceilidhs and last night’s at Leigh on Mendip Memorial Hall in Somerset was one of the best

Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band loves to provide the music and dance caller for birthday party ceilidhs and last night’s birthday party ceilidh had all the ingredients that we like. Ceilidhs are really good at bringing age groups together to have fun. The theme of the evening was a double 80th Birthday Party but there must have been every age group on the floor from toddlers all the way up to teenagers, their mums and dads to grandparents. All enjoying the dancing and having a great time. We particularly liked dance caller Bridget’s dry humour ‘Be careful of the trip hazards’ when referring to toddlers on the dance floor who were crawling around the set nearest the band. Bridget is one of our favourite dance callers and has a friendly and cheerful approach to keeping everyone safe. Once she’d established there was a ‘responsible adult’ in close proximity all was good to go and the dancing could begin with extended family members carefully dancing around the happy toddler.

Leigh on Mendip Memorial Hall has a nice stage too. It was not large in keeping with the size of the hall but it served us well with our three musicians playing fiddle, guitar and wind instruments plus caller. The hall has it’s own sound system but we used our own which is tailored to the instruments we use. We like to have backups for almost everything and even carry a second PA system in case our main one gets faulty. As the saying goes, ‘The show must go on’ and we don’t want anything to stop the fun!

It was easy to park next to the Leigh on Mendip Memorial Hall too. We always appreciate being able to easily unload our two large speaker cabinets, PAs and ancillary equipment. Being able to carry it through the well equipped kitchen to the nearby stage, bypassing everyone enjoying themselves in the hall, was a real boon. Closing the stage curtains while we set up also prevented us distracting the party goers.

So, thanks to the lovely family for inviting us to play at their 80th Birthday Party and thanks to the organisers of the hall for such a nice place to hold a great event. Without doubt we would recommend the Leigh on Mendip Memorial Hall for an extended family ceilidh and we would be happy to return for any future ceilidh or barn dance events. Also, if you were there, and would like to leave us a review, we would very much appreciate that, and you can do it at Leave a Review.

Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band loves playing the music and providing the dance caller for Ceilidhs. We already have lots of birthday party ceilidhs and barn dances booked in the new year of 2026 but we almost always have room for some more. Hot tip! Saturdays can get really booked up. Fridays or Sundays are often clear!

So if you are in the Somerset or Devon area and would like to hold a barn dance / ceilidh for your special birthday, please get in touch with Judy, our hard working band leader (photo below). We can provide lots of options for your ceilidh party ranging from caller with recorded music, two musicians with caller right up to the full band of four musicians with caller. Judy will be happy to advise. We like to think that we can make ceilidh dancing available to all budgets and you might be pleasantly surprised.
