As 2025 draws to an end, we thought it was about time for us to celebrate Christmas by throwing our very own Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band Christmas party back at home in wonderful West Somerset on the borders of Exmoor.
It’s been an amazing 2025 at Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn Dance Band! Few weeks have gone by without us heading out to the furthest reaches of Somerset and Devon for one or more birthday party ceilidhs, anniversary barn dances or wedding country dances. It’s been wonderful! We’ve made lots of friends and visited lots of lovely venues!
More locally, in Watchet and Minehead, West Somerset, Judy, our Barnbuskers band leader and intrepid organiser, has launched Judy’s Weekly Beginner Ceilidh Dance Exercise Classes which are already gaining lots of popularity.
So, it will be nice to party at home for a change and we’d like you to join us! It’s going to be lots of fun. There will be right hand stars, left hand stars, circling to the left, circling to the right, do-si-do-ing, galloping between the lines and lots of swinging your partners (gently or vigorously, whatever they prefer!).

If you’ve never been to one of our ceilidhs, no need to worry, we’ve got one of our favourite dance callers, the brilliant Bridget Flett, joining us to organise and explain each dance first with a walk through. Then, when the music starts, Bridget will keep calling the next steps for as long as needed … which is not usually very long because it’s all very easy but lots of fun!

Just wear comfortable shoes. Bring your partner or come alone and find one on the dance floor (caller Bridget will help with that). Ceilidh and barn dancing, (sometimes called country dancing), is very social. It’s been thrilling people of all ages and generations for hundreds of years. Expect lots of laughter and chat. When the dancing gets boisterous, we just turn up our band volume and we are very used to doing that!
With Barnbuskers December’s diary beginning to look rather booked up, we thought we’d better get on with setting the date and time for our own Barnbuskers Christmas Party. So, with apologies for the rather advanced warning, here they are!
Finally
Christmas is a season filled with joy, warmth, and the simple pleasure of being together. More than just a holiday of gifts and decorations, it’s a time to reconnect with family and friends, celebrate old traditions, and create new memories.
At its core, Christmas isn’t about the presents under the tree—it’s about the people around it. And a festive gathering filled with music, dancing, and shared laughter is one of the best ways to celebrate the season together.
At Barnbuskers, we hope you will help us celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with us by coming to our party. We’d also love you to keep in touch with us by following Barnbuskers on Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, or Bluesky. We also have a mailing list.
