Yes, it’s August Bank Holiday and we at Barnbuskers would like to wish all our ceilidh and barn dancing followers and friends throughout Devon, Somerset and elsewhere a very Happy Bank Holiday.
The sun is shining back here in our Somerset base near Dunster this Friday, the sky is blue and we’re looking forward to this weekend’s birthday party ceilidh barn dance on Saturday evening. It’s going to be lots of fun, especially because it’s in a particularly beautiful Somerset area near North Petherton, between Bridgwater and Taunton. Hopefully, we can get some photos of the village hall while we are there to share in case any of our followers and friends are also thinking of holding a birthday party ceilidh dance in that area.
Also a big thank you
As well as wishing our followers and friends a happy August bank holiday, we at Barnbuskers would also like to take this opportunity of saying a big thank you to all who have booked us for their birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings throughout this Summer. We’ve been wonderfully busy throughout Devon and Somerset and it’s been such a pleasure to meet so many lovely people at so many beautiful locations.
With our dance callers, we’ve played at village halls, wedding venues, proper barns in farms and even in the open air at Vivary Park Taunton where we staged a very special Ceilidh in the Park (see video above). It was a lovely afternoon of dancing and music with people relaxing on the grass in between dancing or just joining in for a quick dance en-route to wherever they were going.

As well as discovering new places to hold ceilidhs and barn dances, we always like revisiting places we’ve played. Knowing the hall or dance venue and the area or stage where we are to be playing always makes setting up and getting ready so much easier. Our visits to the marvellous Highland Barn at Country Ways near Barnstaple, Devon are getting ever more regular both for weddings and for their open to all ceilidh barn dance evenings.

Added to that, the family that run Country Ways wedding venue are always so welcoming and we love our stage behind the hay bails!

Of course, naturally, Barnbuskers would also like to wish a Happy Bank Holiday to all those out there who are not yet our friends and followers. Following us is easy. We put out our news on lots of social media, as well as Barnbuskers blog, absolutely love followers and can be found on Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X or Bluesky. There is also a mailing list.
Finally, if you are planning a ceilidh barn dance to celebrate your birthday party, anniversary, wedding or other event, our band leader and organiser, Judy (below) would love to hear from you via Barnbuskers contact page. As ever, keep dancing!
