There are many reasons why people like to country dance. The sound’s of the music, the throbbing beat of the bass. The energetic leaps of the fiddle.
Dancing helps us to feel alive in the moment but there is more. Dancing is one of the few pleasures that gives lasting benefits because it also helps bring good health. It helps you feel alive but also helps you stay alive longer.
According to the Centre for Policy on Ageing report commissioned by BUPA in the Shall We Dance Report:
‘It sounds like common sense but science agrees. Older people who engage in physical activity live longer and those who carry out more intense physical activity for longer periods live longest on average. Dance is a good source of aerobic exercise and a well-designed dance session can also provide low-level resistance exercise.’
Judy’s Minehead dance exercise classes at the Minehead Rugby Club, Alcombe, are fun and a great way of getting regular exercise for all ages and abilities. Barn dances / ceilidh dances / country dances are very social and have been giving enjoyment to people of all ages and abilities for hundreds of years. They are easy to learn and fun to do. If you would like to join in the fun of Judy’s dance exercise classes or for more information, simply contact Judy through Barnbuskers which is the Exmoor and West Somerset ceilidh country barn dance band she leads and organises through Barnbuskers contact page.
