Another week has gone by. It’s Wednesday so it’s time for Judy’s Ceilidh Barn Dance Exercise Classes at Minehead Rugby Club just off the Ellicombe roundabout, Minehead, West Somerset from 5-6 pm.
Of you haven’t ever tried Country Dancing (otherwise called ceilidh or barn dancing) it’s a great opportunity to give it a go as Judy’s classes are aimed at beginners.
Here’s what to expect. Country dances almost always start with a walk through but, at Judy’s Ceilidh Barn Dance Classes, to make it even easier, she adds an extra talk through first of all. During the talk through she discusses the individual moves or figures used in the subsequent walk though. Then follows the usual walk through by the whole class. Dancing to the music only begins when everyone is totally confident of the steps and figures.
Here’s an example of the do-si-do which is a part of many of the dances:
Here is an example of the cross hands swing figure which is another common country dance figure:
Easy isn’t it! There are many more dance figures to enjoy but each dance only uses a few of the figures and Judy always starts with the easiest.
Judy’s dance exercise classes are fun and a great way of getting regular exercise for all ages and abilities. Barn dances / ceilidh dances / country dances are very social and have been giving enjoyment to people of all ages and abilities for hundreds of years. They are easy to learn and fun to do. If you would like to join in the fun of Judy’s dance exercise classes or for more information, simply contact Judy through Barnbuskers which is the Exmoor and West Somerset ceilidh country barn dance band she leads and organises through Barnbuskers contact page. If you would like to know more about Judy, checkout Judy’s profile page. But most importantly, as Judy says, ‘have fun and keep dancing!’
