Birthday party ceilidh at the amazing Victoria Club with its excellent function room and social and sports activities in Street, Somerset

Barn dance with band in the background

One of the wonderful things about being in the Barnbuskers Ceilidh Barn dance band is the amazing people that we meet and interesting places we visit. Last Saturday (15th February 2025) we were at the Victoria Club in Street, Somerset for a very special 70th birthday party ceilidh with some lovely people. We were really impressed by the function room where the ceilidh / barn dance was held. It was huge and definitely brilliant for ceilidh / barn dancing. There was plenty of room for tables for people to sit and talk as well as space for dancing the line dances and circle dances that are the staple fare of English Country Dancing. In particular, we loved the stage which gave us a defined place to set up all our instruments and electronic kit to provide the music but was not too high above the rest of the floor to make getting on and off difficult. The acoustics of the function room were great too for the band and for our dance caller, Steve Cunio, who had no difficulty being heard as he expertly led the dances.

Now, as it happens, both Barnbuskers bandleader Judy and clarinettist Robin are also keen tennis players at Minehead Tennis Club, West Somerset, and were really impressed by the tennis club that is part of the Victoria Club complex. We really love Astro Turf surface courts because they are easy on our knees but, generally, Astro Turf tennis courts are not easy to find. Victoria Tennis Club has two new Astro Turf Courts and two hard courts all floodlit! We were well impressed and must find some time away from providing ceilidhs to visit Victoria Lawn Tennis Club some time and perhaps play a few games.

It doesn’t end there! Apart from the tennis, Victoria Club also offers Squash & Racketball, Indoor Bowls, Outdoor Bowls, Cricket and Football. There is also a great bar and social area next to the function room which is ideal for people holding an event such as a ceilidh for socialising and for refreshments in between dances.

So, if you are in the Street, Glastonbury or Wells area and are thinking of holding a ceilidh / barn dance or other event to celebrate a special birthday party, anniversary, wedding or other event, the Victoria Club in Street, Somerset would seem to be a great place to check out to see if it meets your needs.
