It’s 2025 and the start of a brand new year so it’s time to wish all our barn and ceilidh dancing friends old and new a very Happy New Year. At Barnbuskers we truly hope that it will be a great year and that all your new year’s resolutions will work out absolutely perfectly.
Perhaps the best way to ensure new years resolutions are kept is to tell everyone about them. It sort of puts more pressure on us to keep them and a pretty obvious clue about my resolution is in the photo above which not only includes our usual array of folky instruments but also an exercise bike.
Why, you might ask, do members of Barnbuskers band need to use an exercise bike when in other blog posts we have proudly mentioned that we enjoy cycling the many country roads of Somerset and Devon. The answer lies in Minehead, nestling under the Exmoor hills, where there is an excellent tennis club (Minehead Tennis Club) and where we are often to be found running around and hitting balls backwards and forwards (and even occasionally over the net). Tennis, like all running sports takes a toll on the knees and the best way to fix knackered knees, my GP says, as well as cycling country roads, is an exercise bike.
So it is the new years resolution of Barnbuskers rather aged clarinettist and resident blogger to regularly (daily) get back onto his exercise bike. His GP tells him it will strengthen his hams and quads in a way that cycling country roads won’t. More importantly, it will stop his knees hurting when he walks around his daily life, dances at the occasional ceilidh barn dance, runs around the tennis court or stands for long periods while playing clarinet at the many wonderful Barnbuskers ceilidh barn dances we all enjoy.

The secret is told and I hope revealing it to all our Barnbuskers friends old and new will help me keep it.
So Barnbuskers ceilidh and barn dance band wishes all our old friends a very happy and successful resolution keeping new year. We hope to see you again in 2025. To all the ceilidh and barn dancing friends we have yet to come across, we look forward to meeting you in the new year of 2025.
