Barnbuskers has a new band member – Judy’s brother Rob Veale has joined the band so we now have two fiddlers! We might not have both fiddlers every time, but it helps us to have more than one to choose from. He already had the shirt , so he didn’t have to splash out to buy the Barnbuskers uniform. Rob lives in Barnstaple, Devon, making it easier for us to do barn dance or ceilidh in the Barnstaple area. So let Rob know if you’re planning a barn dance in or around Barnstaple.

The first dance he played at was just after Christmas at a birthday party that took place at Watchet Bowling Club. If you are planning an event in Watchet, you should consider the bowling club – if you are interested in hiring it you can get in touch via the Watchet Bowling club website.

Any way back to Rob! He did very well at his first ceilidh, but wasn’t miked up.
For the next one we need to be able to hear him, and I can tell he’s keen because he’s just got his own pickup.
The pickup Rob’s got is a band that runs round the middle of the fiddle (ha ha that rhymes). It’s called the Headway – I’ve never had one myself, but people have recommended this to me. It has the advantage of not having a battery in it. My fiddle has a little microphone on it near the bridge, which gives a good sound, but needs a battery. It works well, but I never know how much life the battery has left in it and whether I need to change it.
